Medical Home “Model” Transmogrifies to: The Medical Home Movement

Transmog1

Part Medical Home 101,  part strategy session to rescue primary care, part revival meeting — the National Medical Home Summit held earlier this week in Philadelphia was an amazing event.

The optimism, energy, and dogged persistence of attendees and presenters was pervasive. The event was standing room only with another 200 people tuning in to a live Internet video cast.

Dr. Joseph Scherger captured the mood of the day when he proclaimed:

The Medical Home “model” has become the Medical Home Movement !

For those of you unable to attend, here are some key links and publicly available PowerPoint presentations:

I have to say I have never read about anything in the history of medicine that is a bigger red herring and destined to be more of a huge failure at accomplishing anything productive than the Medical Home Movement. We need more ideas from the frontline community doctors in this country and less demagoguery from the University PhD types who treat a tiny fraction of the sick patients in our society.
Clipboards and theoretical models are encumbering a huge proportion of the health care dollar and our health workforce who should be using their talents taking care of patients instead of using smoke-and-mirrors to create the next fancy boondoggle to suck more money out of the system.

Ditto….weren’t we called Gate Keepers two decades ago… this dish served warm or cold tastes the same.
